Investing in family-owned and founder-led businesses sourced through Cresset’s powerful ecosystem.
Cresset Partners Private Equity Opportunities I, LLC (“CPEO”) invests in structured direct minority private equity opportunities with family-owned and founder-led businesses.
We source growing, profitable, middle-market businesses in defensive industries and focus on partnerships in which Cresset can provide strategic guidance, accelerate growth, and build long-term value—with the ultimate goal successful and lucrative exits.
CPEO is seeded with two health care transactions, and has an actionable pipeline of compelling minority investment opportunities.
We believe that investing in minority equity is attractive due to i.) its exposure to established growth companies at discounted entry valuations, ii.) inherent downside and minimum return protective provisions, and iii.) the minority owner’s ability to secure governance rights.
Supply / demand imbalance: Within the middle market, less than 15% of private equity transactions today are minority structured , while many business owners, given fluctuating market valuations and today’s overall economic uncertainty, favor minority recapitalizations to outright sales.
Cresset’s Investment team has nearly 200 years of combined middle market private equity experience. That experience, along with the firm’s expansive network and ecosystem of over 2,000 wealth management clients (many of whom are CEO’s, founders, and entrepreneurs) and 1,800 private investors lead to unique and compelling proprietary investment opportunities. Cresset actively participates in many UHNW industry groups and engages in proactive outbound networking through private equity contacts, investment bankers, conferences, and direct company relationships.

Members of Cresset’s leadership team had a long-standing relationship with Project Paprika’s founder and CEO. Over two years, Cresset’s principals provided strategic guidance to the founder as he reviewed inbound inquiries from strategic acquirers and considered several paths to liquidity for himself and his family.
Ultimately, Cresset Partners and a group of its investors invested $35 million in Project Paprika. The investment carried certain rights, including a liquidation preference and influence on major decisions. In addition to its capital, Cresset provides the leadership team at Project Paprika additional expertise in the food and beverage space, contacts to potential customers, guidance on potential strategic acquisitions, and help in optimizing its balance sheet.
Cresset closed the investment in Project Paprika on May 31, 2021 and continues to work closely with the founder and leadership team to implement their long-term strategy business plan.
