James Danforth is a Managing Director, Cresset Private Capital at Cresset Partners, where he focuses on venture capital and growth equity investing. Before that, he worked at TRUE Capital until May 2023, when the firm merged with Cresset Partners. James has 18 years of investment experience, eight of which were with TRUE Capital where he served as Director of Alternative Investments.
Prior to joining TRUE Capital, James led equity investment fund research in the Global Manager Research group at Callan Associates, an investment consulting firm advising on $3 trillion of assets for state and corporate pensions. Prior to Callan, he helped manage the $6 billion endowment at the Packard Foundation.
James earned a bachelor’s degree from Bucknell University and an MBA from the Saϊd Business School at the University of Oxford in England. He is a CFA® charter holder.
James was the MVP and captain of his water polo teams at Oxford and Bucknell, respectively, and still plays water polo to this day. James lives in the San Francisco Bay area with his wife and two children.
