Patrick Canning is Managing Director, Vice Chairman at Cresset, providing support to founders, entrepreneurs, private equity partners, and ultra-high net worth families in addition to serving on the firm’s leadership team. Pat helps create a positive experience for prospective and active clients by engaging directly with them to address sophisticated goals and needs.
Pat has an extensive background overseeing the delivery of high-quality client service, leading a culture of ethics and integrity, attracting and retaining key resources, developing marketplace strategy, and representing the firm across business growth activities.
Prior to Cresset, Pat served as Managing Partner of KPMG’s Chicago office, the firm’s second largest office, as well as the Midwest market. He also served as Managing Partner of KPMG’s Boston and Providence offices and was Lead Director for the firm’s board of directors. Pat was an audit partner serving Fortune 1000 global companies in the consumer, industrial and technology sectors. He retired from KPMG in March 2020 after 38 years with the firm.
Pat earned his Bachelor of Science (BS) in Accounting from Providence College and is a CPA. In the community, he is a Board Member and Past Board Chair for the United Way of Metro Chicago and Kids First Chicago. Pat lives in Chicago, IL and Narragansett, RI with his wife, Betsy, and has two grown daughters.
